MEDIA ACCOUNT DIRECTOR

To lead and manage a media team to deliver an efficient, effective and profitable service to clients. To meet key performance goals in respect of client satisfaction, business development, profitability and staff performance as set out by senior management

REPORTING TO

Media Group Account Director (MGAD)

MAIN DUTIES AND EXPERIENCE

Understanding the Agency

Understand and promote UM credentials to clients and Agency

Actively promote and utilise proprietary tools where appropriate, on existing business, whilst identifying new business opportunities

Understand the roles and responsibilities of other UM media teams building effective and profitable relationships, acting as the intermediary between the client, account teams and media team.

Be responsible for the calibre of both internal and external communications prepared by media team and other departments where appropriate

Understand and educate media teams to use the appropriate admin/systems/tools procedures required by both Media and Finance departments

Understand and work towards delivering the Agency financial performance measures, maintaining regular dialogue with MGAD on revenue forecasting

 

Client Servicing

Be the key point of contact for the client team/account team, driving day to day business

Identify and initiate business opportunities from existing clients and produce proposals

Ascertain and respond to client needs, directing key personnel and departments to effectively deliver client requests

Keep client up to date with developments within relevant areas of the media market place and of new media opportunities

Manage the business on a proactive basis, positioning the Agency as a key strategic partner, taking an active interest in all aspects of Client business

Implement appropriate service level agreements with media team

Communicate Agency recommendations

Integrate and direct work with other Agency departments

Delegate tasks and agenda items as appropriate to other team members

Implement regular dialogue with MGAD to review and identify client issues

 

Media Specific Requirements

Delivery of high quality media planning and buying strategies

Involvement with MGAD in contract negotiations

Appropriate use of tools and knowledge resources

Ability to liaise with specialist media teams, e.g. TV and manage quality control

Maintain and develop strong relationships with media owners

Ensure strong media marketplace knowledge

Ensure performance of clients business against targets is known and understood at all times, particularly where this can be effectively attributed back to the media campaign. Take responsibility for other team members and MGAD to be informed of this

Understand overall client strategic position and creative strategy via account management

Capability to lead the team for new business pitches

 

Financial Management

Understand the Client Agency contract on all relevant accounts

Understand financial systems and ensure that financial administration is delivered with maximum accuracy

Ensure invoices are delivered on time and timesheets are completed and up-to-date

Work to deliver maximum cost efficiency of hours against revenue

 

Team Management

Set clear goals and objectives for the performance of direct reports, ensuring input from MGAD

Implement and contribute to the performance and career management process ensuring personal review meetings are held on a regular basis. Ensure content is constructive, providing feedback and an opportunity to agree next steps

Inspire and direct team to achieve positive end results

Maintain team management dialogue with MGAD

 

 

Self Development

Proactively pursue self development opportunities within the Media Account Group

Agree personal development plan with MGAD and Head of HR

 

 

Skills and Experience

Demonstrable experience of working in key advertising and marketing disciplines

Passion about the industry demonstrated by a genuine interest in and enthusiasm for, all aspects of media planning and buying

Ability to articulate strategic media rationales

Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

Presentation skills

Negotiation and influencing skills

Previous team management experience
