The digital division in McCann are responsible for the strategic development, planning, user experience, design, development and ongoing support and aftercare for many of the agencies clients. Working in an integrated 360o fashion with other divisions (PR, Media, Advertising) the division creates a range of digital solutions including enterprise class websites, campaign sites, social apps and mobile / tablet solutions.

 

Role Overview

As PHP Developer your main responsibility is for the creation and implementation of a wide variety of Web-based products using PHP, JavaScript, MySQL and AJAX.

 

Role Duties / Tasks

As a PHP Developer you will be responsible for:

Participating in a team-oriented environment to develop complex web-based applications

Maintaining existing codebase, to include troubleshooting bugs and adding new features

Converting data from various formats (Excel, ACCESS etc.) into developed databases

Providing accurate timing estimates on work

Contributing to documentation (instructional, pitch and technical specification)

Maintaining a high awareness of industry issues and trends, particularly in regard to accessibility, usability, emerging technologies and performance; keep team members informed as appropriate, with a view to incorporating these in future projects and staying ahead of the market and position yourself and the company as a digital specialist.

Constantly seeking to develop by learning new technologies and keeping abreast of your markets developments.

Skills / Expertise

Three years’ experience, preferably at least 1 year at an agency.

We would expect the candidate to have acquired the following skills and experiences to enable them to successfully undertake the role.

Knowledge of development methodologies such as TDD & BDD

Good experience of Git and methodologies (git flow in particular)

High level of experience with PHP, including latest developments in 5 onwards and standards such as PSR-02

Experience of MVC principles & similar patterns

Good experience of LAMP stacks and similar tools (nginx, postgres, memcache)

Knowledge of wider tech such as MEAN, varnish etc

Experience with Laravel 5 & wordpress

Experience of using RESTful architecture and external APIs

Experience of build tools & CI / CD workflow

Experience creating automated services (cron or similar) to handle non-interactive tasks such as stock import / export tools

Comfortable with CLI environments
