Advertising Unlocked opens doors for aspiring creatives

Today we opened the doors of our Birmingham and Bristol offices to students keen to find out more about the world of advertising, PR, digital and media.

More than 40 young people took the opportunity to look behind the scenes and see how a leading marketing communications agency works. The students made the most of the chance to meet the McCann team and discuss the skills and attributes needed as well as top tips to be successful in a creative environment. The Birmingham office played host to students between the ages of 14 and 18 from Jewellery Quarter Academy and Broadway Academy while Bristol welcomed Colston’s School.

The event is part of ‘Advertising Unlocked’, an industry wide initiative organised by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising. It involves a number of advertising agencies hosting students for a day so they can find out more about potential careers and experience how the various departments that make up an agency co-exist. Sufia Parkar, Head of Talent, at McCann Central, says: “It is exciting to be able to welcome young people from the local community and provide them with a chance to find out more about the exciting and diverse career opportunities advertising and the creative industries offer. Advertising Unlocked is a great idea and McCann fully supports efforts to engage with students who are on the cusp of making important career choices.”
